I related to the fact that the blogging itself was not the problem, but instead the challenges were signing up for the blog and getting the comments to post. This was the case in my implementation as well. Using the technology posed more problems than the content itself.
It was a great idea to have someone try it the night before. This is something I think I could do even with fifth-graders. Some of my students are pretty technologically savvy and could help out in this way.
I also liked the way your question asked them to write a letter and persuade someone to engage in physical activity. It wasn’t just about reciting facts, but asked them to interact with the content.
It seemed like it went well, despite the hang-ups! I think your podcast might have stopped early. It seemed like you were in mid-sentence when it finished. It could be I just heard it wrong though too!

I thought you planned very well for the implementation of this Blog by having a “stellar” student
try it the night before. I wished I could count the number of times that I have gone to do something with my class in the computer lab, have it work for me on my computer and then once we get to the lab, it doesn’t work. It happened for me today! By giving your students a focus and a pupose for the Blog I thought you were helping them to get comfortable with using this process as I’m sure some have used a Blog before but many have not. What a great way to open up dialogue with all classes and possibly some outside of your school district! Good job!

I just re-listened to my podcast…
…. I don’t know what happened … well, I sent you my paper, so hopefully you can read the delights from students
Jennifer, it did get cut off
Sue was helping me post it — maybe it got cut off in the process? .. hmm…

Terrific implementation plan! Adding to the thoughts posted by your SIG mates – I really liked the idea of having your students use a word processor to spell and grammar check their posts. Having the students save the word document, as a back up copy of their post, might be a good idea just in case there is a posting glitch. I appreciated the way you asked your students to reflect on, provide feedback about, and to post helpful suggestions about blogging. Valuable information that can be used to adjust classroom instruction and future blogging assignments.
